Coronavirus India Live Updates: The number of deaths due to COVID-19 rose to 1,008 and the total number of cases is now 31,787 in the country on Wednesday, registering a record jump of 71 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry. There has been a spike of 1,813 cases since Tuesday evening.
The number of active COVID-19 cases stand at 22,982, while 7,796 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, the ministry said. "Thus, around 24.52 per cent of the patients have recovered so far," a Health Ministry official said. The total number of cases include 111 foreign nationals.
A CRPF battalion in Delhi has reported 47 cases of coronavirus, including one jawan who died yesterday. The entire battalion of nearly 1,000 people have been quarantined.
Maharashtra, the state with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, recorded 729 new cases on Tuesday.
The government on Tuesday said plasma therapy for coronavirus is still in an experimental stage and can even prove "life threatening" for a patient, amid a surge of hope brought in by the first successful test in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Tripura has become the fifth state in the northeast to become COVID-19 free. The state had two cases - both have been cured and discharged.
